as the holiday season approaches, we often hear the term "bad gifts" or "useless gifts" being thrown around in stories of christmas past.
i was sitting and thinking of different gift ideas and stories i heard in my life, that truly stink or are just plain irritating.
if the thought counted, then these gifts are thoughtless.
Actually, I can understand why not to get a giftcard...if the kids got a new Xbox and the parents didn't know which games they would like, the parent can rent several to see which to buy later on.
That's what I mean by a gift card: one you can use at a Blockbuster store to rent several games.
i had to drag the kids out in the snow because i had to do a few things in town to get ready for my job tomorrow.
of course, the kids were wanting to play in the new snow.
they were so good that i surprised them by taking them to the park and let them have at it.
I'd love to see pics of your little angels making snow angels.
DD is almost 15 and doesn't really play in the snow anymore, but our next-door neighbors have four daughters ranging from a toddler to a second-grader. They are so much fun to watch.
there's so much 'new light' coming out recently but i wonder if any of it really hits home to the average dub.
i think a good deal of those who leave do so because of a lack of real, honest love.
they get sick of the judgemental attitude and the continual grind.
I clearly remember the CLICK moment when I realized that I was supposed to believe all the stuff I heard was literally true -- and I didn't! But I think I might have had that realization growing up in any faith that had a strict creed.
i've read on here several times about how jws are discouraged for doing charitable work for anybody other than jws, and that they are discouraged from contributing financially to non-jw charities.
are there some references to this in their literature that someone could point me to?.
also, i had a discussion with a jw about a recent relief effort some jws did in florida.
On the insurance end of it, there would have to be reciepts/bills for the labor in order for the insurance to pay for the labor. The insurance company does not just hand you the value of the house OR how much you have it insured for. They pay you what it costs to rebuild up to your policy limits. They will however, in many cases pay you to do the labor yourself.
When the interior of my house was damaged by flooding after my water heater burst, the insurance company gave me a check without asking for any receipts. I did not have to account for the labor; the money was mine to spend as I saw fit. In fact, I was able to use the money not only to repair drywall and paint in the damaged rooms, but to paint some other parts of the house as well.

A man I work with rented XBOX 360 games from Blockbuster and wrapped them for his nephews and explained after they opened them that he would be around in seven days to return them.
Why didn't he just get them gift cards for Blockbuster? At least then they'd know what they were getting, and they could pick their own games.

we just had our co visit, and our co is the guy that was the head of hurricane relief in punta gorda, florida.
So, how exactly, is this NOT insurance fraud?
It's shady on the part of the WT, I agree, but I don't see how it's insurance fraud. So long as the householder had a valid claim, the money is theirs and they can do anything they want with it, including giving it away.
i've come to love and cherish much of the wisdom that emanates from the dear ladies of this forum and believe watchtower boobed in making all women subservient to the men.

I am always the mediator in the office wars between the various females that work here and I can tell you that it is not pretty dealing with the women at my office who are in positions of power. It is constant drama. Seriously. Every day is like a bad movie off of the Lifetime Channel. Who-said-what-about-who, who-is-out-to-get-who, who-does-she-think-she-is, I'm-going-to-get-her-back-for-that, etc., etc., ad nauseum.
I'm sorry the women you work with are llike that. I've been in the workforce for 20+ years, working with men and women, and behavior like that has been the exception. Please don't attribute the negative traits of your co-workers to all women.

now i shall post the follow-up.. as i predicted, my mom would come with elders in tow to have a conversation.. actually, she threw me for a loop at first.
no elders with her.. she had them wait a half an hour then she let them in.. thus i couldn't reject the whole lot of them at the door, she was their way in.. secondly, she brought the elders from the nearby hall, not the ones who know me.. the whole time i thought she would go for someone who she knows can dominate my thinking, but instead she went with the unknown.. .
Metaspy, did this meeting take place at your home? If so, remember that you don't have to admit anyone into your home if you don't want to. Tell your mother that you do not wish to meet with the elders (you don't owe her an explanation for why, even if she asks for one), and that if she brings the elders to your home you will not allow them in.
If you're accustomed to accepting the authority of the elders, it can be hard to let go of that. But the fact is, they have no authority over you at all. You don't have to meet with them or talk to them or let them into your home.

If you really think Jesus, our great exemplar, the most humble of all of Jehovah's servants, expected us to go from door to door and didn't lead by example, then I say your blind!!!
What if we think he didn't expect us to do that?
